”There are also traces of settlements in forested areas, where subsistence was probably basedon forest grazing and animal husbandry, hunting, fishing, and gathering. Such settlements are
evidenced by pollen analyses and by graves, sometimes containing bones of sheep or goats (Stedingk and Baudou 2006).
In a mountainous area near Lake Sösjön in present-day Njaarke
sameby, in Kall parish, reindeer breeding in the eleventh century is probably evidenced by hearths,
cooking pits, and pollen analyses (Aronsson 2005). It seems clear that there were several ways of living and expressing cultural belonging and that the inhabitants of the region included not only
sedentary farmers (Welinder 2008, 101, 107, 129; Hansen and Olsen 2014, 97‒ 100).”
