At certain times and places the infant mortality rose up to 80-90% among the parish Saamis, a group which mainly did consist of the old Forest Saamis.
This text is about the Forest Saamis in Sweden.
But; since I first wrote this, I have found credible sources concluding that Forest Saamis in both Norway and Finland (plus most likely, and to some extent obvious in wide parts of Karelia and Russia, Kola peninsula that is) that is.
The process when studied reveals a wide range of similarities already with a brief comparison betweeen what happened to the Forest Nenets, Southern Selkup and Southern Khanty speakers, as well as with the speaker of the many already extinct languages spoekn by peoples with forest reindeer husbandry and other forest-related subsistences like hunting-gathering-fishing in taiga area of Russian North and Central/Western Siberia. I will later, in other texts, return to this issue.
